TRIDENT win CGPL Season 9

TRIDENT have been crowned champions of Australia's CyberGamer Professional League for Season 9, taking home $2,500 AUD in cash after defeating Cypher 2-1 (16-8 de_mirage, 6-16 de_nuke, 16-8 de_overpass).
After a long six-week of online groupstage matches, eight teams progressed to the single-elimination playoffs. Notable teams such as Athletico, Chiefs and Immunity decided to not partcipate this season due to more focus on international opportunities.
Parallax, the defending champions from the previous season, had a difficult quarter-final matchup against Exile5. Razmik "RaZ" Bastadjan, the team's star player was not present, forcing the Aussie-Kiwi squad to use a stand-in for the playoffs, just managing to win the three-map thriller in overtime.
Iain "SnypeR" Turner's plusvee was in a similar situation with the loss of Mohammed "MoeycQ" Tizani, but the 2-1 outcome favoured their opponent, Cypher in the end. The other quarter-final matches showcased two straight map wins for TRIDENT and onestop, where they took down Skyfire and a weakened AVANT respectively.
BlackouT's TRIDENT claim their first CGPL title
Heading into the semi-finals, the reigning champions were overthrown by Tom "BlackouT" Richmond's TRIDENT in two maps that went down to the wire, including a quadruple overtime. Despite Jordan "Hatz" Bajic stepping up his perfomance throughout the day with incredible fragging numbers, it was not enough to push Parallax over the line.
The second semi-final went in the way of Cypher, as Montheara "prakM" Prak destroyed onestop in the first map with 35-kills under his belt. prakM continued topping the scoreboard in the following map, securing the series win against Seth "seth" Leeson's side, who tried his best to keep onestop in the game.
Reaching the final stage, the showdown between TRIDENT and Cypher was closely contested. Both teams traded map wins, allowing only single-digit scorelines for the opposing team. However, TRIDENT immediately took control of the third map at 7-8, preventing Aaron "ajk" Girton's men from gaining any Terrorist rounds in the remaining half. An MVP showing from Mitch "m1tch" Hastings helped TRIDENT grab the series.
